Adaptations for size and quantity

Suggested Adaptations:

  • Reduce the number of questions required for an assignment:

    • use stickers, stamps or clearly circle worksheet questions to signify start and stop spots

  • Break larger tasks into steps:

    • provide one piece of an assignment to complete before giving the next

    • chunk instruction

      • provide 5 minutes of instruction and then an opportunity for student to check for understanding or share thoughts with a partner for 1 minute

    • use associations or mnemonics to learn sequences

    • provide step planners that break down the steps necessary for task completion

    • provide priority planners that prioritize the tasks to be completed to help student focus on what is more important to and what is less important

  • Reduce the amount of notetaking:

    • Provide copies of the notes so the student can highlight key words

    • Provide a copy of the notes with key words blanked out (cloze) so students can follow along and add key words
